One of MTYP’s most popular teen productions of all time, An Illustrated History of the Anishnabe explores Aboriginal history through the distinctive voice of Joe from Winnipeg – the alter ego of Governor General’s Award-winning playwright Ian Ross. With humour and compassion, this engaging and thought-provoking piece provides lessons from history with contemporary relevance for all Manitobans.

“This play is destined to have a long history telling a valuable story about all our people.”    -Winnipeg Free Press

Beneath the Banyan Tree
Touring Manitoba February and March, 2010
Ages 5-12

This vibrant production blends theatre, traditional Indian and Western dance, puppetry and music to tell a story of tolerance and the clash of cultures. Anjali, an aspiring dancer, is caught between the cold reality of adapting to life in Canada, and her imaginary world of Indian fables. In her struggle to fit in, it is ultimately the richness of her culture and the strength of her family that enables Anjali to find her place among her new peers.

“A gorgeous presentation of Indian dance and fable that's just so sumptuous.”    -CBC Radio
