COME TOGETHER
Connecting with other creative young people is one of the most exciting aspects of theatre camp at MTYP. Inventing characters and stories, playing together, and performing as a team for a live audience: these fun experiences build confidence and a sense of belonging.
Your favourite camp themes are back, along with some brand new adventures. Together we’ll put stories of pirates and princesses on the stage, make movies about wizards and werewolves, and delve into oral storytelling traditions from around the world. We’ll add some some visual art, song and dance, and a dash of rock and roll, and see what new concoctions we can cook up.
This summer is sure to be our best theatrical escapade yet!
Is one week just not enough? Sign up for more than one week and get $30 off the price of every additional camp.
Each camp fee includes a non-refundable $10 MTYP membership fee. Your total fee covers the cost of camp programming, supplies, a discount card for selected merchants at The Forks, and your very own t-shirt to wear on outings and to take home after your week at camp.
Our doors open at 8:30 am. Campers dropped off before 9:00 am will be supervised until classes begin. Campers are asked to bring their own lunches, and to provide their own drinks and snacks to get them through the day.
To ensure the safety and well-being of all the students, we require that they remain in the building unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. Camp ends each day at 4:00 pm but any campers who cannot be picked up right away may stay until 5:00 pm to enjoy supervised games and crafts.
All MTYP Instructors are active in Winnipeg’s theatre community as actors, writers, and directors. We have made the art of theatre a lifetime practice, and invite you to come and join us in a journey of personal and artistic discovery.
TYPES OF CAMP PROGRAMS
Half-day camps for ages 5 & 6 Our young actors rehearse a show, assemble costumes, and build props for their very own performance on the last day of camp. Half-day camps run from 9:00 am to noon or from 1 – 4 pm.
Story to Stage camps for ages 7 –12 Create a play in five action-packed days. We create sets and props, gather costumes, and participate in special events and group games! It’s a world of theatrical discovery, with a live performance presented on the last afternoon of camp. Parents and friends are invited to attend.
NEW THIS YEAR: Masterpiece or Song to Stage As in Story to Stage, we’ll create a play for performance, but instead of using a story as a starting point, actors will use a famous painting or a hit song for inspiration.
Movie Magic camps for ages 7 – 12 At Movie Magic camp, you learn the “ins” and “outs” of how motion pictures get made. Whether you hit your marks as an actor, or find your place behind the camera, you’ll help to make your very own movie to show to family and friends on the last day of camp. Campers who make a movie at camp will be able to view their movie on-line!
Musical Theatre camps for ages 9-12 Ever try singing, dancing, and acting, all at the same time? Have the time of your life and develop your triple threat skills at one of our ever-popular Musical Theatre camps. Each camp ends in a Friday afternoon performance for family and friends.
Animation Workshop Camps ages 7-12 From start to finish, you are the designer of an animated movie adventure: you build a miniature world, invent the characters, write the story, rehearse the voices, and even compose the musical score. Invite family and friends to a screening on the last day of camp. See your movie on-line.
NEW THIS YEAR: Rock Band ages 11 & up If you have an instrument, or a voice that wants to rock and roll, join this camp – you’ll be part of a band that will rehearse, write, record, and perform. Your band will make a YouTube appearance, and perform live for family and friends. (audition required)
Camps for Teens 13+ MTYP is the place for creative teens to come together. Take your pick from four intensive summer programs: Summer Lab Teen Intensive, Rock Band, Teen Improv Intensive, and Broadway Bound.
