Primary (3-6 years)

DramaVentures
3-4 year-olds & parents

One of the greatest gifts a child can offer is an invitation to play. In this course, adults participate with their children in various forms of imaginative play such as story-telling and story-building. Watch your child’s natural love of stories blossom along with his or her confidence and group skills.

Dynamic Drama
4 & 5 years

The perfect class for the drama dynamo in your family. An adventure in imagination, with stories to captivate and stimulate, costumes to try on, and lots of moving, acting, and dramatic play. Participants will encounter the world of theatre while developing confidence and cooperation skills.

Creative Drama

Puppet Magic
5 & 6 years

This course is a great way to have fun developing verbal and social skills. Students will make puppets out of all kinds of materials, and create storylines to bring their characters to life. A puppet show will be performed for special guests on the last day of class.

Junior Acting

What is acting about?  How do you begin?  This course gives you the chance to build your acting skills through dramatic exercises, tableaux, and creative movement. Learn to share ideas and invent scenes through improvisation and teamwork. Join the fun of imagining, learning, and performing together with new friends who love to act, just like you!

Actor’s Workshop

Offered only in Spring, this course is a unique opportunity to work with theatre professionals on everything an actor needs to know. From audition methods and voice and speech training to mime and stage movement, actors will get serious and have fun bringing their skills to the next level.

Musical Theatre for 7 & 8 year-olds
 
Does your child burst into song and dance whenever company arrives? Specially designed for children ages 7 and 8 who already love to perform, this course combines songs, stories, and creative movement. We’ll act out the best-beloved children’s stories of all time and have fun adding music and movement as we go!

Junior Musical Theatre: Introduction
9-12 years

Dreaming of Broadway? Start here with a course for those who are up for the challenge of acting, singing and dancing — all at the same time! Come share the fun of learning choreography and performing chorus numbers from your favourite musicals. You’re sure to feel like a star with this hit!

Animation Adventures
9-12 years

Discover the vibrant art of stop motion animation from storyboard to finished movie. Create characters from modeling clay and get ready to make magic. Not just for actors, this course is for anyone who likes to draw, sculpt, or simply watch cartoons. All students will receive a videodisc copy of class work.

Motion Picture Unit (MPU)
9-12 years

The MPU is an innovative course that allows actors to explore the professional world of filmmaking behind the scenes and in front of the camera. The course is divided into units focusing on various aspects of film and television—taught by professionals from the film industry and an MTYP facilitator. All students will receive a DVD copy of class work.

Prerequisite--minimum of 1 year of Theatre

The Spring Performance Company
For juniors 9 years & up and teens

Think big — outdoors big!  Members of this company will rehearse and perform a show that’s so big, we’ll have to take it outside. Drama, dance, puppets and pandemonium will come together in a spectacular and colourful production!  Performances will take place at The Forks National Historic Site of Canada
Amphitheatre in June, 2010.

Teen Division (13 - 19 years)

Teen Introduction to Acting for the Stage

Satisfy your urge to be in the spotlight with this dynamic introduction to live theatre and the acting process. Develop performance skills through improvisation, scenework, and vocal and physical training. Join the list of hundreds of teens who have made lifelong friends at MTYP, while enjoying the excitement and challenge of theatre. At the end of the course you’ll perform a play with your classmates.

Musical Theatre for Teens: Level 1
13 years & up

The curtain rises and the orchestra strikes as we launch into this exciting ‘triple threat’ challenge of acting, singing and dancing. You’ll learn the essentials of dance and choreography as you work on production numbers from Broadway’s best musicals! If your heart is set on auditioning for the many local productions in the works in musical-mad Winnipeg, this is the place to start.

Teen Improv Comedy
13 years & up

Experience the thrill and total freedom of creating theatre without a script. Through theatre sports, games and improvisational techniques you’ll learn how to quickly develop characters and take scenes to their comic potential. This lively and
entertaining class is a great way to experience the creative teamwork that makes theatre happen. No experience is necessary: just an active imagination and a sense of adventure.

Spring Break Theatre Camp
Monday, March 29 - Thursday, April 1, 2010

Spring Break Full-Day Camp is four intense days spent working with theatre professionals, making new friends, and building a show from the ground up.

The energetic rehearsal process culminates in a large-group performance of a brand new play, presented on the last day of camp to an invited audience of family and friends.

(Please note: there is no camp on Good Friday, April 2)

Classes run from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm daily. Student drop-off begins at 8:30 am and pick-up goes until 5:00 pm

Half-Day Spring Break Camp for 5 & 6 year olds

Our young actors will spend half days with us, rehearsing a show, assembling costumes, and building props for their very own story adaptation on the last day of camp. Early drop-off begins at 8:30 am.
